Widespread Flooding Devastates Monmouth After Storm Claudia Hits Wales | 10 News

A major incident has been declared by authorities in Wales on Saturday after Storm Claudia triggered widespread flooding, devastating the town of Monmouth.

Video footage shows high floodwater levels inundating local homes and businesses and submerging cars on Lower High Street in Monmouth.

The flooding followed nearly 12 centimetres of rainfall in south-east Wales overnight, causing the River Monnow to rise to a record level and spill over its banks.

Natural Resources Wales issued several flood warnings for Monmouth and the surrounding areas, citing an ongoing “significant risk to life and significant disruption to the community.”

Emergency rescue crews worked to evacuate and assist residents of the town.
