Woman allegedly tries to remove hijab from Brisbane teen

A woman has allegedly tried to remove a hijab from a teenager in the Brisbane suburb of Manly, according to a social media post published by the chief executive of the Islamic College of Brisbane.

Queensland Police have confirmed investigations are ongoing and have urged anyone who has more information to come forward.

In a statement to SBS, Islamophobia Register Australia described the alleged incident as “deeply disturbing”, and said “no one should be questioned, harassed or intimidated for simply existing in public”.

“These actions are not isolated or harmless; they are discriminatory, traumatic, and cause real harm to individuals and to the wider community.”
