After she took this footage, a number of other local volunteers showed up to keep the animal wet. The juvenile mammal became trapped on a sandbank at the southern entrance of Wathumba Creek, sparking an immediate rescue effort from local beachgoers and wildlife authorities. A spokesperson for the Department of Environment confirmed that the whale managed to self-release and was able to return to the ocean.
