Communications minister Anika Wells announces the decision to include YouTube in the social media ban for children under 16, but says YouTube Kids will remain exempt. Wells attributes the decision to advice from the eSafety commissioner, saying the government can’t ignore evidence that ‘four out of 10 Australian kids report that their most recent harm was on YouTube’. She says the government won’t be ‘intimidated’ by social media companies and that the regulations are about prioritising ‘parents ahead of platforms’
