We’ve all been told to eat oranges when we’re sick, but vitamin C isn’t the cold cure we think it is. At best, it might shorten symptoms by a few hours.

As for other natural remedies: ginger can help inflammation if you eat enough, turmeric’s curcumin shows promise but needs black pepper for absorption, and zinc is the most reliable, around 75 mg taken early can shorten a cold.

For long-term immune health though, the basics win: fibre, movement, stress management, and good sleep.
