Because according to this appliance expert, pre-rinsing could actually backfire.
Ashley Iredale told Yahoo Lifestyle, “If you’re pre-rising everything, you’re showing a lack of faith in the dishwasher’s ability to do the one thing that you paid all that money for in the first place.”
Ashley explained that there’s also a little-known device inside most modern dishwashers which “detects the amount of soiling present in the first rinse cycle and adjusts power and washing accordingly.”
“So, if you’ve rinsed everything off, it’s not going to pick up that there’s any dirt on the plates at all.”
While you should still get rid of any large chunks of food that could block the filter, too much rinsing could impede the dishwasher’s strength.
