The King presented the US President with a framed facsimile of the 1879 design plans for the Resolute Desk, which was created from the timbers of the British exploration ship HMS Resolute and was originally gifted to US President Rutherford B. Hayes by Queen Victoria in 1880.

The Resolute Desk has been used in the Oval Office by almost every president since.

In return, Trump gave Charles a custom facsimile of a 1785 letter written by John Adams, who had become the first US Ambassador to Britain.

King Charles and Queen Camilla are in the US to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, when the country ceased to be a colony of Britain.
