Catherine publicly wore Queen Victoria’s for the first time since 2005 when the late Queen Elizabeth II wore the tiara during a state banquet in Malta.

According to The Crown Jeweller, Queen Victoria stipulated in her will more than 100 years ago that the headpiece could be worn by queens and future queens only – designating the tiara as an heirloom of the Crown.

The tiara, which was commissioned by Victoria’s husband Prince Albert in 1853, is set with opals and 2,600 diamonds.
