Francis deSouza, Scale AI CEO, says comprehensive testing is needed to understand what AI models can do and the risks they pose before determining how to mitigate them. He argues for an evidence-based approach to AI development, saying the debate over moving faster or slowing down should be guided by a clearer understanding of the technology’s capabilities and risks. deSouza also says evaluations should cover both frontier and open-weight models.
