Albanese pushes back on calls to sack Rudd over Trump comments

Opposition leader Sussan Ley declared Kevin Rudd’s position as Australia’s ambassador to the US “untenable”, following an awkward exchange with US President Donald Trump during Prime Minister Anthony Albanese’s visit to the White House.

Albanese, however, defended Rudd, saying no-one in the room believed the interaction had damaged the Australia-US relationship, and added that Trump had “forgiven” Rudd after the meeting.
