Lee Elliot, chief product officer at Compare and Recycle, explained to Yahoo Lifestyle why people are so keen on using an old phone for creative photography.
He said, “The iPhone 4 has all the hallmarks of a great vintage digital camera, offering lower resolution, less processed photos that give a distinct and more authentic early 2000s look.”
But there’s a hidden danger lurking inside a phone that old.
The iPhone 4 is limited to iOS 7.1.2, which was released back in 2014, and it cannot be updated to newer operating systems, which come with better security features.
Lee said, “Weaknesses can be exploited through malicious websites via Safari or unsecured Wi-Fi connections, which significantly increases the risk of data being stolen.”
If you add personal and financial information like your bank details to the phone, it could be susceptible to data leaks, hacking and other security breaches.
However, if you’re keen to jump on the trend, Lee suggests using the phone as “purely a digital camera rather than a connected smartphone”.
