U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has unveiled a major new economic pressure campaign against Iran, warning countries and entities that continue doing business with Tehran that they could face U.S. penalties. The campaign, dubbed “Operation Economic Outcast,” aims to cut off Iran’s remaining financial and economic lifelines, including revenue from oil and other sectors.
Bessent said the United States wants to isolate Tehran from the global economy and warned that “no one is above the reach of US sanctions.” The expanded measures target areas including shipping, gold, aviation, technology and digital assets, while Washington is also threatening secondary sanctions against Iran’s trading partners.
