United States President Donald Trump has lashed out at Mark Carney after the Canadian prime minister announced retaliatory tariffs.
Negotiations between the neighbouring countries broke down over the weekend in Washington, triggering new 50 per cent US tariffs that will affect about US$20 billion ($27.9 billion) worth of goods, or 5.5 per cent of Canadian exports to the US.
Carney said Canada will match the US tariffs, ‘dollar for dollar in order to protect Canadian workers, farmers, families and businesses’.
The US president responded to the development on social media: “Canada wants the benefits of being a State, without being one!!!”
