Logging will be banned in a large stretch of woodland on Australia’s east coast to create a retreat for koalas to save local populations from extinction.
The Great National Koala Park, inland from Coffs Harbour, stretching north towards Grafton and south close to Kempsey, has been welcomed by environmentalists, but criticised by the timber industry.
Some in that sector say six timber mills and hundreds of workers will be impacted.
