Although most traditions were upheld at the christening, which took place in 2013, the choice of George’s godparents represented a major change to the monarchy.

Princess Anne’s daughter Zara Tindall, who doesn’t carry a royal title, was the only member of the royal family to be named as one of George’s godparents.

It was then decided that Prince George’s six remaining godparents would be William and Catherine’s close friends.

Traditionally, the godparents of royal children had to be royals themselves, but the Prince and Princess of Wales decided that it was time for a change.
