The YouGov poll found that the number of Britons who saw him positively has fallen to 58 per cent, while the number who viewed him negatively has risen three points to 34 per cent — the joint-highest proportion under his reign.
But Royal commentator Sharon Williams told Yahoo Lifestyle that she suspects that the result may not necessarily have anything to do with the King himself.
“He and the rest of the paired back Royals are working as hard as ever… plus [the King’s] health and energy levels look good.”
According to Sharon, the low popularity rating could also have been swayed by Prince Diana’s brother’s recent memoir, the updates on Prince Andrew, and the return of Prince Harry and Meghan.
Still, the royal commentator explained that “There is an opportunity to target the younger generations coming through, but it won’t be long before Prince George will be aligning with them.”
“It’s a continual comms narrative to build an understanding of the King’s role and what he does for the United Kingdom.”
