Minnesota Governor Tim Walz said on Saturday (January 24) the state would lead an investigation into the second fatal shooting in Minneapolis involving federal immigration agents.
Walz, speaking at a press conference in Blaine, said he had watched video of the incident “from several angles” and called it “sickening.” He urged Minnesotans to continue protesting peacefull, saying tensions could be inflamed, and accused federal officials of trying to “spin a narrative” before any investigation is completed.
Walz called on President Donald Trump to withdraw ICE from Minnesota, saying federal agents were “sowing chaos and violence.”
A Border Patrol agent shot and killed a man in Minneapolis on Saturday, local and federal officials said, the second such incident this month during a surge in immigration enforcement in the northern U.S. city that residents and local politicians have fiercely protested.
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security said the Border Patrol agent fired in defense after attempting to disarm a man local police said was a U.S. citizen. Federal officials said the man who was shot approached them with a handgun and two magazines.
