Sepehr Saryazdi, a CSIRO PhD candidate, has been denied bail after being accused of planning to use Molotov cocktails in a terrorist attack on the Gold Coast during Australia Day.
He appeared in the Brisbane Magistrates Court facing charges of preparing a terrorist act.
The court heard he had drawn the attention of counter-terrorism officers due to concerns about his online activity, specifically Facebook Messenger chats in a private group of over 50 members.
