Oil Tops $100 as US-Iran Conflict Escalates | The Pulse 9/9/2026

Oil topped $100 a barrel for the first time since July, as attacks between the US and Iran propel the global crude benchmark higher. US forces destroyed five Iranian tankers carrying crude oil on Tuesday in response to two attempts to hit a US Navy warship with ballistic missiles in as many days, according to Central Command.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent challenged traders to test his resolve on boosting Japan’s currency, saying when he wades into markets these days he’s effectively doing so with inside information. “I am the house now, so when we intervene with the Japanese yen, I have pretty good insight into what the Japanese, what the Bank of Japan is going to do, what Japanese policymakers are going to do,” Bessent said. “And you can bet against me if you want.”

Apple is set to debut a roughly $2,000 foldable iPhone Duo today as part of a wide-ranging product event. The showcase is slated to feature the iPhone 18 Pro, new Apple Watches and updated AirPods. But the centerpiece of the launch will be the foldable smartphone, a pricey device that Apple believes will be both a status symbol and something that could help restore its reputation as an innovator.
