Opposition leader Ley delivers speech on social unity after nationwide protests

Opposition leader Sussan Ley delivered a speech to parliament saying “new pressures” had been placed on Australia’s “social cohesion” since Hamas’s October 7 attack.

Ley said that “people of goodwill” at recent anti-war protests in Sydney had been “hijacked by those glorifying terrorism” and that yesterday’s nation-wide anti-immigration rallies had been “hijacked by violent neo-Nazis spouting hate and racism”.

”We must never import the bitterness of overseas conflicts into our communities”, she said.
