Palestinian Australian author threatens defamation case against SA premier

South Australian Premier Peter Malinauskas has refused to apologise over public comments he made about Palestinian Australian author Randa Abdel-Fattah, after she was dropped from this year’s Adelaide Writers’ Week.

Abdel-Fatteh says she has taken the first step in defamation proceedings against Malinauskas, describing his remarks as a “vicious personal attack”.

More than a hundred guest speakers and authors stepped down from the event after the controversial decision was made to remove Abdel-Fatteh from the line-up.

The board has also since resigned, and the event has been cancelled altogether.
