‘Probably not a lesson he was expecting’: Trainee pilot’s terrifying mid-flight emergency | 7NEWS

The ATSB has released its final report into an aircraft that made an emergency landing at Mona Vale Golf Course on 17 August 2025. An exhaust valve failure caused the engine to lose power during a training flight from Shell Harbour Airport. The instructor, who had been proactively monitoring potential landing sites throughout the flight, initially planned to land at Long Reef Golf Course but diverted to Mona Vale as engine performance deteriorated. The student pilot received minor injuries while the instructor was uninjured.
