Senators clash over alleged sexual assault of flotilla activists.

Foreign Minister Penny Wong and Greens senator Mehreen Faruqi had a heated discussion over allegations of sexual assault from Australian activists who were part of the Global Sumud Flotilla.

Faruqi asked Wong if she believed the women, after detailing accusations of sexual violence by the Israel Defense Forces from flotilla participants Juliet Lamont, Violet CoCo and Neve O’Connor.

While Wong said she “always believes women when allegations of sexual assault are made”, Faruqi wasn’t satisfied, interjecting that she had “done nothing to support these women” and was allowing “the criminals to investigate their own crimes”.

Israel’s government has previously denied the participants’ allegations of abuse and said detainees were “held in accordance with the law”.
