Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake said the country is facing “the most difficult rescue operation in its history”.
The death toll in the country from Cyclone Ditwah has climbed to 334 with many more still missing, officials said on Sunday, as floodwaters breached a dam and rescue operations continued into a fourth day.
Nearly a million people were impacted by heavy rains and floods that swept through large parts of the island nation, forcing nearly 200,000 people to seek shelter, the Disaster Management Centre said in a statement.
