Tehran only has a few days of water left. What’s caused this ‘dire’ situation?

Iran is experiencing an unprecedented water crisis, which has not been seen for more than six decades. Experts warn that Tehran, one of the world’s most populous cities, is only a few days away from running out of water.
The capital city has gone without rain for over 200 days, and its main water sources are in a “dire situation”.
Some Tehranis have told SBS News their taps are unpredictable and water anxiety in the city has peaked, likening the situation to “almost a kind of water famine”.
