Although Prince William referred to his wife as Kate during their 2010 engagement interview, royal correspondent Simon Vigar told GB News that members of the press were encouraged to refer to her as Catherine.
He explained, “Kate obviously works in a headline, like Di and Meg, but in the years after, we were getting briefed that it’s Catherine.”
Vigar addressed the name discrepancy in his joint biography of Diana, Camilla, Catherine, and Meghan, when he said, “Friends in sixth form and uni called her ‘Kate’—as William did—but to her family and childhood friends, she was always Catherine.”
