Thousands of students and teachers marched through the streets of the Greek capital of Athens on Wednesday, calling for affordable student housing and more state investment in education, as protests that have swept Europe spread further.
Similar protests were being held in several other cities in Greece, including Thessaloniki in the north and the western port city of Patras.
Students gathered outside Athens University in the capital’s centre and marched to the nearby parliament building.
Around 3,000 police officers were called in to monitor the protest while subway stations along the route were closed.
