Iran’s supreme leader signalled on Friday that security forces would crack down on protesters, directly challenging US President Donald Trump’s pledge to support those peacefully demonstrating.
Ayatollah Ali Khamenei also suggested that Trump should “run his own country, if he can”.
Trump later repeated a warning to Iranian leaders, “you better not start shooting [protesters] because we’ll start shooting too”.
