Relationship expert Melissa Ferrari told Yahoo Lifestyle why she thinks that the last month of the year can push couples to the brink.

She said, “I think it’s all to do with Christmas.”

“There’s the people that say, ‘Let’s break up now before we have to buy each other gifts’, or before we need to be in front of the family and the family sees that we’re not doing okay.”

Melissa added that the end-of-year period is usually a time of reflection, which can be “distressing” for some.

December 11 was deemed the most common day for break ups back in 2008 when more than 10,000 Facebook statuses were analysed to see when the American public were taking to social media to vent about their break ups.

But, it doesn’t take too long for people to get back out there – with January 5 dubbed Tinder’s most popular day of the year.
