15 countries in the Commonwealth realm have to agree before the change would take place and Albanese said Australia was the first nation to write to UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer in support of Andrewâs removal.
In the letter, Albanese wrote, âI agree with His Majesty that the law must now take its full course and there must be a full, fair and proper investigation. These are grave allegations and Australians take them seriously.â
Speaking to ABC Radio, he said, âWe have made sure that everyone knows what our position is, and weâll be writing today to the other realm countries informing them of our position.â
Mountbatten-Windsor is currently eighth in line to the throne, and his removal would be a symbolic move after his recent arrest.
