Queensland cafe owner Ruby Rule told Yahoo Lifestyle, “I wouldn’t personally enforce minimum spend rules or a laptop ban unless it became an industry wide norm.”

“That said, I do think there’s a level of common decency involved.”

“If someone chooses to work from a cafe for several hours, it’s reasonable that they continue to support the business throughout that time.”

Ruby said that if someone does want to work from a cafe all day, they should not only keep ordering food, but also be mindful of where they are.

“Cafes aren’t offices, they’re small businesses with tight margins.”
