Those travelling to Queenslandâs popular Cooloola Coast are being reminded that camping permits and portable toilets are compulsory, with authorities cracking down on those caught going without.
Queensland Ranger Lindie Pasma explained that the âremains of bush toileting have become a common sight in many remote national parks, which not only spoils the natural beauty of the area, but also poses a potential pollution risk.â
To combat âbush toiletingâ, campers must bring a fully self-contained chemical portable toilet with them.
They must have a sealed waste-holding tank and be suitable for transport and for emptying at designated disposal points.
Human waste can pose significant threats to ecosystemsânot only can it contaminate soil and waterways, but it also threatens native plants and wildlife.
